Lunchtime lecture at The Hunt Museum
The lunchtime lecture in the Hunt Museum today at 1pm is by Fr Seán Ó Duinn OSB, Glenstal Abbey, a renowned Celtic scholar, who will speak on The Mystique of Christmas and the Winter Solstice.Before Christianity the winter solstice was celebrated on the shortest day of the year, December 21st, and many customs that developed at that time endure to this day and will be explored in the lecture. Admission to the lecture is free and all are welcome.
University College Cork Better Options 2008
University College Cork in association with Ahead (Association for Higher Education Access and Disability) and Dawn (Disability Advisors Working Network) are hosting a one-day event for students with a disability or specific learning difficulty considering Higher Education Options in Ireland tomorrow from 9.30am to 2.30pm in Devere Hall, Áras Na Mac Léinn, UCC. Universities and institutes of technology from across Ireland will exhibit programme information and will be on hand to discuss supports for students with disabilities in higher education.

Parents' Open Evening at IT Sligo
The school of business and humanities at IT Sligo is hosting a parents' open evening tomorrow from 6pm to 8pm. Parents can meet lecturers, and there will information available on courses as well as an opportunity to have a look at the facilities on offer.
DIT Open Day
Dublin Institute of Technologys annual open day takes place on Saturday, December 6th in DIT Aungier Street, Dublin 2 from 9.30am to 2.30 pm. Advice and information on all DIT undergraduate, part-time and post-graduate courses will be available. Visitors will be able meet teaching staff and talk to current students. Guided tours of facilities will be available.

Conference on Migrants and Higher Education
A conference on the experience of ethnic minority workers in accessing higher education and training will be held in the Hodson Bay Hotel, Athlone on Thursday, December 4th. The symposium fee is €50 or €100 to include a pre-conference dinner on Wednesday evening, at which the guest speaker is Rotimi Adebari, former Lord Mayor of Portlaoise.
Open Day at TCD
The TCD open day will take place on Wednesday, December 10th from 9am to 3pm. The programme of events is available on www.tcd.ie/ Admissions/ undergraduate/
Intercultural School Competition Limerick primary schools and transition year students in secondary schools are invited to participate in an intercultural poster and poetry competition with the theme "Many Cultures, One Home".
Entries should be submitted on an A4 page with the student's name, school and class year written on the bottom righthand corner. The deadline for entries is December 15th.
