Liberties open day
. LSO tomorrow, the Liberties College, Dublin (tel (01) 454 0044), is holding its open afternoon from 2 p.m. to 4.30 p.m. It will provide an opportunity to talk to course tutors, meet with students and look at a range of work.
Closing dates
. STUDENTS applying for colleges outside the CAO/CAS system should watch out for the various deadlines for receipt of applications. The Royal College of Surgeons, which has 40 places for Irish students, has a closing date of this Friday. However, late applications with a late fee will be accepted up to May 31st, 1996.
Gus Martin memorial
. THE Association of Teachers of English has organised an essay competition to honour the memory of Gus Martin, who died in October of last year.
Martin was professor of Anglo Irish literature at UCD and a founder member of the association. Leaving Certificate students are invited to write an essay (about 2,000 words long) on any aspect of an Anglo Irish writer or writers.
The closing date for entries is Friday, May 3rd, and essays should be posted to The Augustine Martin Memorial Essay, c/o the Association of Teachers of English, Teachers' Centre, St Patrick's College, Drumcondra, Dublin 9.
