Dunnes Stores staff to strike

Staff at a Dunnes Stores branch in Limerick city are to stage a one-day strike this month over what they claim is management's "extremely negative attitude and behaviour" towards employees.

The strike at the Harvey's Quay store has been called by Mandate, whose members at the branch balloted by a majority of more than nine to one for industrial action on May 27th.

Mandate divisional organiser Brian Higgins claimed the company had failed to address a number of concerns raised by workers at the store.

Staff were being forced to change their hours and work more than one late night a week as agreed in their contracts; rostered hours were not being posted up a week in advance as agreed; while there were also health and safety issues, he said.

Dunnes Stores declined to comment.
