Asked if he required legal aid, he said he did, and further asked if he wished to nominate a solicitor, he replied "Michael Hanahoe".

Garda Flood objected to legal aid and said when arrested Mr Gilligan had a 1996 Honda Civic car and he also had a house at Weston Green, Lucan.

"My father bought them for me, your Honour," Mr Gilligan told the judge.

Judge Collins replied: "Well then, you're fine." Legal aid was refused. Mr Gilligan was remanded in custody to appear at the same court on April 9th.
