The freedom of the borough of Drogheda was conferred on the SDLP leader and MEP, Mr John Hume, on Friday night.
The Mayor of Drogheda, Mr Frank Godfrey, said Drogheda Corporation wanted to recognise Mr Hume's peace role and described him "as one of the greatest Irishmen of the 21st century".
