The Fingal Draft Development Plan is expected to go on public display shortly for the statutory period of three months, so that interested parties such as residents' associations can express their views before it is formally adopted.

As soon as the draft was circulated, several councillors tabled motions proposing that various parcels of land be rezoned for development, at a series of special meetings, which began on Monday, to consider the contents of the plan. Among those who tabled motions that the planners have recommended should not be passed was Mr Sean Lyons (Ind, Castleknock); Labour councillors said he was moving in a "broad front" across the county, with three rezoning motions for Lusk.

Others who proved active were Mr G.V. Wright TD (FF), Mr Michael Kennedy (FF) and Mr Philip Jenkinson (FG), seeking relatively small reasonings in the Malahide area, which they jointly represent.

The council's chairman, Mr Cathal Boland (FG), was informed that his motion to rezone lands at Courtlough, on the proposed M1 motorway near Skerries, was in direct conflict with the council's policy to conserve the rural resource base of the county.
