At least 21 people have been killed when a cliff collapsed and buried a hot springs resort in Indonesia's East Java province.

At least 50 people are still buried under mud at three hot spring pools and one swimming pool in the town of Pacet, said Taufik Mikhrozin from the local health clinic.

"For the moment, we have received 21 bodies and four injured people," a local medical officer said.

Heavy rain caused a rocky cliff above the pools to collapse.
