Dollar slips against the euro

The dollar slipped versus the euro this afternoon after a report showed housing starts in July fell more than expected.

The dollar slipped versus the euro this afternoon after a report showed housing starts in July fell more than expected.

Housing starts fell a much more-than-expected 6.1 per cent in July, the Commerce Department said. The number of building permits, a sign of future construction plans, also dropped.

The euro was little changed at $1.3426, rising from $1.3415 before the report. The dollar was 1.6 per cent lower versus the yen at 114.51.
