A Woman released from the Central Mental Hospital in Dublin on Monday was found hanged in a toilet cubicle at Cavan bus station later the same evening. A post-mortem examination was held yesterday on the body of the 40-year-old woman. Foul play is not suspected.
The woman had been a patient at the Central Mental Hospital for several years and had been released in the past in the company of a carer. She was unsupervised when she left the hospital on Monday, and gardai in Cavan were contacted by hospital staff after they were led to believe that she had caught a bus to Cavan town.
Passengers who were at the bus station on Monday evening said a woman answering the patient's description was looking for directions to the Garda station in the town and appeared agitated.
Her body was discovered by a cleaner at the bus station.
