Skopje - The Macedonian parliament was set to reconvene today after a concerted push by Western diplomats over the weekend to keep the political peace process on track.
The session was suspended on Saturday in a surprise move by speaker Mr Stojan Andov, a powerful figure in Macedonian politics, who declared it would not resume until displaced people were allowed to return home and rebel fighters withdrew to positions they held in early July.
After meeting officials from the European Union, the United States, Europe's OSCE security organisation and NATO, Macedonia's President, Mr Boris Trajkovski, assured Mr Andov conditions would improve.
Meanwhile two rebel commanders told the press at the weekend that one-third of ethnic Albanian guerrillas operating in Macedonia had now been demobilised.
