London - Britain's trademark watchdog said yesterday it planned to rule within the next two months on whether Princess Diana's image could be officially registered and protected from unlicensed commercial exploitation.

The Memorial Fund submitted 26 photographs of the princess to the Patent Office in October 1997. It was seeking to protect her image from being used by unscrupulous traders on tacky souvenirs and to ensure that when her face was used, money raised should go to her favourite charities.
