The Fermanagh bridge congress will be run in the Manor House Country Hotel, Killadeas, Enniskillen, March 19th-21st. Both the major and intermediate pairs will be played on Friday (8 p.m.), and Saturday; the teams on Saturday night, and Sunday (1.30 p.m.); and the mixed pairs on Sunday night. Open pairs throughout. Co Derry, represented by I. Lindsay, R. Burns, A.J. Sharp, and A.E. Alcock, won the Anglo Irish Bank all-Ireland team championship (Burke Trophy) with 384 victory points, at the Shamrock Lodge Hotel, Athlone. Runners-up were J. Moran, P. O'Neill, S. Dowling, and M. Keane (South Co Dublin) with 362. Third came J. Sexton, J. Doyle, K. Lennon, and S. Scallan (Wexford) with 355.
Dublin City South, M. Lindopp, G. Dunne, V. Lynch, and M. Keating, won the third session award. All 39 teams who had qualified got prizes. In the final the following counties did not compete: Down, Leitrim, Mayo, Monaghan, Roscommon, and Tyrone.
Coleraine Academical Institute, G. Bellingham, J. Cummings, P. Cahn, and S. Duddy, won the allIreland schools team championship (Burns Trophy) at the Galway Centre. Runners-up were S. Bavalia, D. Sloan, M. Blackwell, and C. Calder (Belfast Royal Academy). Third came F. McInerney, S. Gilmartin, O. Walsh, and C. Joyce (Laurel Hill, Limerick). Fourth were G. Tenner, S. Lee, R. and A.Gray (Bangor Grammar).
National inter B multi-venue pairs (Kervick Trophy), overall result: 1, F. Radmall, B. Martin (Nenagh); 2, M. Fitzgerald, P. O'Lomasney (Cork); 3, C. Halligan, O. Eisenring (Cork).
The Ballinasloe, two-session, open pairs championship (A.T. Cross Trophy), with prizes worth over £1,500, will be run in Hayden's Hotel on March 21st. Special awards for all grades. A separate event for novices (5.45 p.m.). Entries: Martin Loughnane (0905-73702).
