US computer giant Dell is to cut 200 administrative jobs at its Limerick plant as part of the company's global cost-cutting plan.

The company said no manufacturing jobs at the plant would be lost. Jobs at Dell's sales support centre in Bray in Co Wicklow are also safe, a company statement said.

The jobs will be cut under a voluntary redundancy programme at the Limerick plant where Dell employs 4,500 people. Dell is the largest US multinational employer in the State, employing over 6,000.

Earlier in the year Dell warned of easing profit growth as the US economy slowed after an extended boom.
