The death has occurred of Dr William Gilbert Wilson, former Bishop of Kilmore, Elphin and Ardagh, who retired in 1993. Dr Wilson, who was aged 81, is survived by his wife Peggy and six children.

Gilbert Wilson was ordained in 1942 and served as curate in St Mary Magdalene, Belfast, Diocese of Connor, from 1941 to 1944. He then served as curate of St Comgall, Bangor, Diocese of Down and Dromore, from 1944 to 1947 and Incumbent of Armoy with Loughguile, Diocese of Connor, from 1944 to 1976.

He was a Canon of Connor Cathedral from 1964 to 1976, Incumbent of Christ Church, Lisburn, from 1976 to 1981, Dean of Connor from 1976 to 1981 and Bishop of Kilmore, Elphin and Ardagh from 1981 to 1993.

Dr Wilson's funeral takes place this morning at 11.00 at Armoy Parish Church.
