London - The case against the man accused of robbing former Welsh Secretary Mr Ron Davies is to be dropped because of insufficient evidence, the Crown Prosecution Service said yesterday.

Mr Donald Fearon had been charged with robbery after the incident, which began on London's Clapham Common on October 26th last.

Mr Davies said in a statement he accepted the CPS's decision as "an exercise of legal judgment on their part" but insisted: "I stand by the formal statements which I have made to the police."
