Independent MEP Ms Dana Rosemary Scallan has said she will contest a seat in Galway West in the upcoming election.
The Derry-born singer will stand as an independent candidate.
The news comes after the recent resignation and announcement by Progressive Democrats TD Mr Bobby Molloy that he would not be contesting the Galway West seat in the election.
A former winner of the Eurovision Song Contest, (1970), Ms Rosemary Scallan confounded pundits in 1997 by securing just under 14 per cent of the presidential vote.
