Our ambassador in Washington Ted Barrington was at the British Labour Party conference for most of this week, winning friends and influencing people. On Wednesday he threw his annual conference party at the Grand Hotel which was attended by all in Brighton who have any role in AngloIrish affairs and many who haven't. The previous evening, however, he hosted a most select dinner party in the conference hotel, the Metropole. Guests included Sinn Fein's Francie Molloy, the PUP's David Ervine, who is in Brighton with a 13strong delegation, Michael McGimpsey of the Ulster Unionists, MPs Roger Stott and Harry Barnes, and Mo Mowlam's advisers Anna Healey and Nigel Warner. Mo herself dropped in for pudding.
