Human remains found in Grand Canal in Co Kildare

Scene to undergo forensic exam as gardaí say body held in ‘container’

Gardaí are investigating the discovery of body in the Grand Canal in Co Kildare.

The body was found at 3.30pm in what gardaí described as a container at Ardclough Village, which is between Naas and Celbridge.

Gardaí were unable to say if the body was that of a man or a woman on Saturday evening.

A Garda spokeswoman said the scene has been preserved to allow for a technical examination and that the office of the State Pathologist had been notified.

A source said the matter was being treated as suspicious as a person would not have got themselves into the position the body was found in.

The investigation, being led by officers from Leixlip Garda station, is ongoing.
