Rome - An appeals court yesterday confirmed life sentences imposed on 15 senior Mafia figures found guilty of a series of bomb attacks in Italian cities that left 10 people dead and more than 100 wounded in 1993. A 16th defendant was declared not guilty of one of the attacks and had his life sentence converted to 30 years.
Two of the defendants, Bernardo Provenzano, believed to be the Sicilian Mafia's current boss, and Matteo Messina Denaro had been sentenced in absentia.
