The Department of Agriculture has isolated a flock of sheep in County Cork as a precaution against foot-and-mouth disease.

The flock, on a farm in Inchigeela outside Macroom, is being restricted following the discovery of a lesion on one of the lambs this morning. The area’s veterinary surgeons have also been isolated.

A spokesman for the Department of Agriculture said the case was not one it was unduly concerned about. He said that the precautions being taken were standard practice.

The flock will be kept isolated and remain under observation for a few days.
