WHEN Kevin Kelly launched his latest publication, The Food And Wine Magazine, a veritable gourmet selection of guests turned up to wish him well. From the restaurant world came Roly's Bistro chef, Colin O'Daly; restaurateurs Dieter Bergman from Il Primo, Norman Hewson from Tosca's, John and Catherine Howard from Le Coc Hardi, Georgio Casari from the Unicorn and Jean Barlow of the Side Door in the Shelbourne.

Peter and Alicia White, former proprietors of White's on the Green, came along to wish both the magazine and their son, Trevor White, who is deputy features editor, good luck. Hoteliers present were Claire O'Reilly and Michael Martin of the Clarence and Michael Governey of the Conrad Hotel, who chatted with Mary Bowe of Marlfield House.

Sonia Bradford of the Big Cheese Company; Richard Douglas of the Douglas Foog Company and Geoff and Jane Caird, the brother and sister team behind Chocca Mocca, all came along representing the food industry. Kathy Gilfillan brought actress Jeananne Crowley and artist Anne Madden with her model Sonia Reynolds was with solicitor Barry Lyons and furniture designer Simon O'Driscoll was there with Hannah Moore.

Katy McGuinness, who is featured in the magazine, together with husband, architect Felim Duane chatted to Maureen Cairnduff, Liz O'Donnell TD and her husband barrister Mike Carson. Liz was tired after a day at the negotiating table saying the event was ideally non-political so she could relax and socialise with Mike, who she has hardly seen after weeks of electioneering.

Actor Alan Devine popped in before the football began, accompanied by his Argentinian girlfriend, Patricia O'Shea. Devine is on summer leave from Glenroe but is not spending the time sunning himself, he is hard at work on a new Disney film about the second World War that is filming here - with help from Steven Speilberg - at the moment. Other actors involved are fellow Glenroe veteran Mario Rosenstock and Mia Farrow.
