The Office of Director of Corporate Enforcement (ODCE) secured the disqualification of 14 persons following High Court proceedings last year.

In an end-of-year statement, Paul Appleby, the ODCE director noted there had been a significant increase (up 146 per cent) in the number of complaints concerning property management companies last year.

He said guidance would be published for these companies to help them address some of the problems being encountered.

Mr Appleby also said convictions had been secured against 28 companies for breaches of company law. There were 48 convictions secured in 2006.

He said the decline reflects the decision to pursue a number of larger and more complex cases last year.

During 2007 the office also restricted 120 directors of insolvent companies.
