The Minister of State for Education and Science, Mr Willie O'Dea, has said the extra £250,000 announced by him last week for the adult literacy service is intended to cover only the remaining months of 1997. He said it was only the beginning of the process of implementing the Government's special commitment to the relief of adult illiteracy, and could be "expected to generate a momentum which will lead to greatly increased resources over the coming years."
