A Supreme Court appeal against an order allowing the liquidator of Clonmannon Village, Ashford, Co Wicklow, to disclaim old care contracts held by the residents of the village was adjourned yesterday. The court heard that terms of settlement had been agreed between the parties, and the presiding judge, Mr Justice Murphy, adjourned the case for a week.

The four residents had appealed against a High Court order last May allowing the liquidator, Mr Brian Conroy, to sell the leasehold interest in the village and to disclaim the old care contracts held by the residents of the village. In his High Court decision, Mr Justice Shanley said the contracts were onerous and unprofitable.

The judge said the new owners of the village, Ms Jane McGrath and Mr Roderick McGrath, purchased the lands in August 1996. However, they did not purchase the leasehold interest.
