Four Dublin firms are to share a €12

Four Dublin firms are to share a €12.5 million contract for a national publicity campaign on climate change, it emerged today.

The two-year initiative aims to improve public understanding of the causes and implications of climate change.

The Environment Department awarded the two-year contract to four Dublin firms: Mary Murphy Associates, Cawley Nea/TBWA, RPS Group and OMD Ireland.

The total value of the contract for the Climate Change Communications and Public Awareness Campaign is €12,482,843 million excluding VAT.

All relevant sectors and activities will be addressed in the drive including energy, transport, agriculture, residential, the public sector and business.

The campaign is a key commitment of the National Climate Change Strategy 2007-2012 and in the Agreed Programme for Government.

It will support the actions required to meet Ireland's emissions target under international standards.

A new Cabinet subcommittee on climate change currently oversees the national climate change strategy.

Meanwhile the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is hosting a series of lectures on climate change in Dublin in coming weeks. The events in Dublin will explore the political, economic and social consequences of the global challenges caused by carbon emissions.
