The murder of a young boy whose body was stuffed in a suitcase and thrown into a lake in a Sydney park has shocked the Australian city.

Police released photographs of the suitcase in a public plea for information on the killing.

The body was discovered last night, when children playing in the park in southwest Sydney saw the suitcase floating in a lake. Two boys fished the suitcase out of the water with sticks and found human remains wrapped in plastic inside.

Police said they believe the dead boy was aged between four and eight, and that the suitcase may have been in the pond for several days.
