Chemical explosion in Belfast docks

An emergency exclusion zone was set up today after a chemical explosion in Belfast’s docklands.

An emergency exclusion zone was set up today after a chemical explosion in Belfast’s docklands.

The Police Service and the Fire & Rescue Service set up a 100-metre zone after sealing off a chemical distribution firm in the Harbour Estate.

The explosion, in the Duncrue area of the estate, is understood to have involved hazardous materials.

Police urged people living in the area to keep their windows and doors closed and motorists to avoid the area. There were no reports of injuries in the blast.
