The Giants Stadium was the venue for the World Cup defeat by the Republic of Ireland of Italy in 1994.

The friendly match would mostly likely be played on May 18th, a weekend after the final Scottish Premier League games.

A spokesman for the club said: "The match is an idea we have been looking at but nothing is certain. We maybe in a position to confirm something in a week to 10 days' time."
