Struck-off doctor Paschal Carmody was told yesterday his appeal against his conviction for unauthorised possession of prescription medicines will be struck out if he does not lodge books of appeal within four months.

Carmody (63) was convicted in Tralee District Court in 2005 on nine counts, including having St John’s Wort for wholesale without a licence from the Irish Medicines Board. He received a 10-month suspended sentence.

Carmody, of Ballycuggeran, Killaloe, Co Clare, brought judicial review proceedings which were dismissed and he has appealed that decision to the Supreme Court.

Mr Carmody, who yesterday discharged his lawyers and is now representing himself, said the 28-month delay was due to personal and legal problems.
