The booklet will contain factual information on some of the major cancers specific to men, including prostate and testicular cancer.

The chief executive of the Irish Cancer Society, Mr Barry Dempsey today welcomed the launch of the booklet. "One in three people will develop cancer at some stage and on average there's a new case of cancer diagnosed every half hour in Ireland. Being aware of early signs and symptoms is vital and could save one's life," he said.

He advised that men should see a doctor about any change in bladder habits or if "there's an unusual lump or swelling in the testicle".

"With the help of campaigns such as Tackle, the Society aims to speak to men in a language they can really understand and equip them with the knowledge and confidence to take action on cancer," he added.

The campaign is being launched in association with the Brown Thomas Group who will distribute a 16-page information booklet.

The booklet is also available from the Irish Cancer Society Cancer Helpline. Freefone 1800 200 700 weekdays, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
