Clerical staff at Bus Éireann are threatening to strike over the October bank holiday weekend - one of the busiest weekends of the year.
The dispute centres on a Labour Court recommendation on the introduction of fortnightly pay, a fifteen per cent pay rise, and the payment of a €1,000 lump sum.
The company's manager of employee relations, Mr Michael Donnelly, told ireland.comthe pay offer was in line with offers made to other grades in the company.
But strike notice was issued last Friday after 350 staff, represented by SIPTU and the TSSA, rejected the findings of the Labour Court.
A SIPTU spokesman said clerical workers would stop work on Friday October 25th and again on Tuesday October 29th. They will stop work every Monday and Tuesday until the dispute is resolved.
Mr Donnelly said it was as yet unclear what effect the threatened strike would have on bus services. The company is to issue one month's protective notice to all staff, except those involved in the dispute.
"The bank holiday weekend was chosen to cause the maximum damage possible to the company," he said.
