Pedestrians in Dublin¿s Merrion Square had a lucky escape this afternoon when a Bus Eireann coach swerved off the road and crashed into the railings of the square.
Nobody is believed to have been seriously injured in the incident which happened shortly after 2 p.m.
It is understood that the accelerator on the Bus jammed and that the driver took evasive action and swerved onto the pavement and into railings of the square.
The bus crashed through the pedestrian gate used just moments before by Mr Francis Murphy, an off-duty postman from the inner city.
Mr Murphy who was the park reading at the time of the crash said: "I just heard a thunder as the bus crashed through the railings ... I thought it was the sonic boom of a plane or something like that."
A minibus and a car were damaged in the incident.
