The brother of Progressive Democrats transport spokesman Senator Tom Morrissey has been elected as a councillor in the United Kingdom.
PJ Morrissey, an older brother of the senator, took the council seat for the Liberal Democrats in Newcastle last night.
Mr Tom Morrissey will contest a Dáil seat in the Dublin North constituency at the next general election.
Speaking after his brother's election today, he said: "I'm delighted for PJ and hope after the election to see a situation where a Morrissey brother is serving in public office in both jurisdictions."
