British police, holding a man under the Prevention of Terrorism Act, last night confirmed they have been granted a 48 hour extension. They refused to say when it would expire or whether the man was been held in relation to a mortar attack on Heathrow Airport in 1994.

The man was detained on Monday in the Strathclyde area following a joint operation between Strathclyde and London police.
