British Airways has told unions it is cutting 1,800 jobs by the end of the financial year.

BA, which employs 58,000 workers, says it had made clear it needed to reduce the number of people it employed and tackle costs.

"This is part of that process. We are looking to reduce the headcount by 1,800 by the end of the financial year and look to make further reductions in the following year," said a BA spokesman.
