The 34th Ballybunion bridge congress will be held at a new venue, the Golf Hotel, from September 9th to 13th. Open pairs will be run on Wednesday (7.30 p.m.), and twice daily thereafter.

The women's pairs will be played on Thursday (7.30 p.m.); the two-session mixed pairs on Friday (2 p.m.); likewise the major pairs on Saturday; and an extended session of the teams will start at 12.30 p.m. and finish at 5.15 p.m. on Sunday. Entries: Peg Mullins (066-25775).

The Contract Bridge Association of Ireland beat the Northern Ireland Bridge Union by 395 victory points to 313 in the annual friendly match for the Sonya Britton Trophy in Greystones.

The CBAI's national master, mixed pairs championship (Spiro Cup), and intermediate mixed pairs championship (Jim Fitzgerald Trophy), will both be decided over three sessions in the Bridge Hotel, Waterford, on September 19th (1.30 p.m.), and 20th (noon).

Entry is open to players from the intermediate B grade upwards. Accommodation lists are available from regional secretaries, and from Paul Porteous (01-2697275), who will also accept entries.

The South Co Dublin team championship will take place at the Roadstone Sports Complex - off the Naas Road in Kingswood - on September 16th (7.30 p.m.) and 23rd. Prizes will be awarded to the different grades if there are sufficient entries. The overall winners will qualify for the all-Ireland inter-county championship (Burke Trophy).
