Crystal City - Ex-Senator Bill Bradley has launched his uphill run for the Democratic presidential nomination in the US, promising to fulfil the American dream for "those who have been left out".
Mr Bradley, who trails Vice-President Al Gore by wide margins in national polls for the 2000 nomination, returned to his boyhood home where he first attracted national attention as a high school basketball star.
Mr Bradley was an all-America basketball star at Princeton University, a Rhodes Scholar, an Olympian, member of the New York Knicks professional basketball team, author and senator from New Jersey for 18 years before he became the only Democrat to challenge Mr Gore.
