A boy (5) is recovering in hospital today after being shot in the leg in Limerick in a feud-related incident.

The child was standing with a group of people outside a house in O'Malley Park in Limerick's Southill area when a gunman opened fire shortly after 7.30pm yesterday evening, hitting him once in the upper leg.

He was rushed to the Mid-Western Regional Hospital. His condition was described this afternoon as stable.

The house, which is owned by a relative of the boy, has been targeted before in an ongoing feud. It is understood that the boy was not deliberately singled out.

The incident was the third shooting in the southside of Limerick city last weekend.
