A two-year-old boy died after he was run over by a lorry on a farm in Co Tyrone yesterday, police said today.

A two-year-old boy died after he was run over by a lorry on a farm in Co Tyrone yesterday, police said today.

Tadhg Sweeney was playing outside his family home at Mullaslin, Carrickmore when the incident happened on last night.

The North's Health and Safety Executive is investigating the incident. Police said the boy had been run over by the lorry but the exact circumstances are still being investigated.

A police spokesman said officers were called at around 6.30pm. "The child was pronounced dead on arrival at Altnagelvin Hospital," he confirmed.

Local Sinn Féin councillor Ann Marie Fitzgerald, who visited the home last night, said relatives were devastated.

“The child was the youngest of four boys and was playing outside when the tragic accident involving a lorry occurred,” she said.

“As a parent and local representative, I wish to extend deepest sympathy with the Sweeney family during this incredibly difficult time.”
