NATO troops have arrested a Bosnian Serb war crimes suspect charged by the UN war crimes tribunal in connection with a campaign of mass rape of Muslim women

during the Bosnian war.

"I can confirm that SFOR has successfully detained Radovan Stankovic, a person indicted for war crimes ... near Foca" in southeastern Bosnia," Mr Scott Lundy, spokesman for the NATO-led Stabilisation Force (SFOR) said.

"There were no casualties, no shots were fired during the operation," he added.

Mr Stankovic "is now in the process of being transferred to The Hague," he said referring to the seat of the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY).

"SFOR's two detentions this week serve as a warning" the statement quoted NATO Secretary General George Robertson as saying.

SFOR on Sunday arrested Miroslav Deronjic, a Bosnian Serb also wanted by ICTY for his part in the 1992 killing of 60 Muslim civilians near Bratunac, eastern Bosnia.

"There is no place to hide for anyone accused by the tribunal of these horrific crimes," Mr Robertson said in the statement.
