Campaigners for UDR man Neil Latimer believe he will be freed next year following a decision by the Life Sentence Review Board to recommend his release on licence. The decision must be approved by the Northern Secretary, Dr Mo Mowlam, after consultation with the judiciary.

Latimer has spent 14 years in prison for the murder of a Co Armagh Catholic, Mr Adrian Carroll, in 1983. In 1992, the Court of Appeal overturned the convictions of three other UDR men previously alleged to have been involved in the murder but upheld Latimer's conviction.
