Blades' Blackwell confirms Leeds approach

Sheffield United assistant Kevin Blackwell has confirmed an approach from Leeds United to become head coach at Elland Road.

Sheffield United assistant Kevin Blackwell has confirmed an approach from Leeds United to become head coach at Elland Road.

Former Huddersfield and Plymouth keeper Blackwell, who arrived at Bramall Lane as Blades boss Neil Warnock's assistant in August 2000, revealed he expects to speak to Leeds boss Peter Reid later today.

"I have just had a phone call to say Peter Reid has asked Sheffield United's permission to speak to me," confirmed Blackwell.

"At the moment I have not spoken to Peter Reid, but yes, an approach has just been made."

A shocked Blackwell, linked with several vacancies throughout last season, added: "I don't know Peter at all. They (Sheffield United) have asked me if I would like to speak to them.

"But until I speak to Peter I can't say a lot more."

The moves for Blackwell comes after Reid, who was appointed on a permanent basis at Elland Road just before the end of the season, chose to dispense with the services of assistant Eddie Gray and head coach Brian Kidd.
