Montevideo - Centreleft opposition presidential candidate Mr Tabare Vazquez conceded defeat to his rival from the ruling Colorado Party Mr Jorge Batlle last night, after official results and exit polls showed Mr Batlle sailing to a runoff election victory.
"We want to salute the man who will be the next president of Uruguay," Mr Vazquez said, after 30 per cent of the official result counted showed him taking only 36.5 percent of the vote against Batlle's 58.1 per cent.
