Bail revoked at father's request

A man asked a judge to put his drug addicted daughter in, custody yesterday, saying she was out of control. Mr John Maxwell asked Dublin District Court to revoke £300 cash bail, he had put up for his daughter, Rachel (21), of the Glebe, Esker, Lucan, Co Dublin.

He said the family had spent £1,000 on a detoxification programme in England for her and were now "bankrupted". "We are not getting any help from the State and there is nothing more we can do for her," he added.

Ms Maxwell was before the court on a total of 11 charges relating to shoplifting, failure to appear in court and one count of being carried in a stolen car dating back to 1995.

Judge Gerard Haughton said it was "virtually impossible" to get treatment for drug addiction these days. He agreed to revoke bail as she had failed to comply with conditions and remanded her in custody to April 18th.
