THE 1997 European of the Year Award was begun in Dublin yesterday. The award, now in its 10th year, is sponsored by Aer Rianta and recognises Irish people who have made a significant contribution to the political, social or cultural life of Europe.
Previous winners include the former Taoiseach, Mr John Bruton, and the Chernobyl children campaigner and presidential candidate, Ms Adi Roche. Members of the public who wish to nominate a possible recipient can do so through the European Movement at (01) 671-4300.
