Author-in-hiding owed thousands in royalties

Cork University Press is searching for an author in hiding for 10 years after she wrote a book about a triple murder.

Cork University Press is searching for an author in hiding for 10 years after she wrote a book about a triple murder.

The publisher want to trace former prostitute Ms Lyn Madden so they can pay her thousands of pounds in royalties.

Her book, Lyn: A Story Of Prostitution, told the story of a firebomb attack by her then-lover and pimp which killed three women.

The book has been re-released, but the publishers can't find Ms Madden.

They believe Ms Madden may be in the UK and using a different name after death threats forced her into hiding.

The book, written with the help of Irish journalist Ms June Levine, sold more than 20,000 copies but prompted death threats against both women.

A spokeswoman for the publisher said: "She changed her identity and went into hiding. We can understand why she wanted to put the past behind her, but it would be good to pass this money to her."

Ms Levine waived her share of royalties and her last contact with Ms Madden came during a visit to the UK in the mid-1990s, when the author was said to be unemployed, reports Britain's Independentnewspaper.

Cork University Press took over the book's original publisher, Attic Press.
