Arson suspected in Coleraine superstore fire

An incendiary device may have started a fire at a B&Q outlet in Northern Ireland last night in a repeat of a dissident republican attack earlier this year.

Police have appealed for keyholders in the Riverside Retail Park in Coleraine, Co Derry

to check their premises after the blaze was discovered in the carpet section of the store at around 10.30 last night.

Extensive fire and water damage was caused in an incident similar to one which destroyed commercial premises in Newry, Co Down

and was later claimed by renegade republicans.

SDLP Assemblyman John Dallat said Coleraine had in the past had problems with arson in the which took some time for local business to recover from.

"It seems there is still an element about the lead that destroying economic targets is the way towards peace and reconciliation," Mr Dallat said.
