Four firearms and a quantity of ammunition were seized by gardai in a dawn raid at a Travellers' halting site in Mulhuddart, Dublin, yesterday.
A total of 80 gardai took part in a search of the Cruise Rath site in a follow-up operation to the killing of a Traveller at a halting site in Blanchardstown earlier this year.
Four men who attempted to prevent the searches, which began at 5.30 a.m., were arrested for public order offences. i from Blanchardstown had been assisted in the operation by the Garda air support, emergency response and sniffer dog units. Among other items found were two stolen vehicles, a number of stolen car radios and some potential weapons.
The search was related to the shooting of Mr Matt Hand (32), a father of five, at Ballycoolin halting site in March. A man has been before the courts facing charges in relation to the shooting.
