Gardaí in Co Longford are investigating the circumstances surrounding an assault on a young woman earlier this week.
The 18-year-old woman was found naked in a field on the outskirts of Edgeworthstown with serious injuries to her head and body on Wednesday morning.
She was taken to the Midlands Regional Hospital in Mullingar for treatment. Her injuries are not life threatening.
A man in his 30s was arrested in connection with the incident in the Edgeworthstown area on Wednesday.
He was questioned under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act before being released after 12 hours.
A file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.
