The permanent transfer of French striker Nicolas Anelka to English Premiership side Liverpool from Paris St Germain is close to being concluded the French club and player said today.

"Liverpool and Paris St Germain have reached a financial agreement concerning me and now it's up to the management to decide," Anelka told the club's webside.

"I'm happy at Liverpool, yes, I want to stay here and not just for a year or two, for a long time. I have a good relationship with everyone," said Anelka, who has been left out of France's World Cup squad by national coach Roger Lemerre.

PSG's vice-president Alain Cayzac confirmed that a deal had been reached. "We have reached an agreement with Liverpool. I hope it will be definitely signed in the next 10 days so that everyone will be able to go on holiday," Cayzac told the French press.

The deal between the two clubs is reported to be in the region of £12million but negotiations are stalled over the salary demanded by the 23-year-old.

The Reds want to convince Anelka, who has scored four goals in 20 games since his arrival last December, to lower his wage demands. He has been reportedly seeking £60,000 a week.
